The Birdhouse Showcase!

They are calling it “showcasing Birdhouse design”. The award presentation was held on Wednesday, the 4th of October, at 1:30 PM. The catchphrases were: “Come see a bird’s eye view: it’s for the birds!” I was walking by the N building when I saw Birdhouses on a wire. I saw two men observing the houses. I walked closer to ask them if they knew anything about the strange occurrence. One of them answered: “they’re birdhouses made by the architectural technology students, each made for a specific species. Look at this…

Vanier Chess Initiative

Oh jeez Rick… I wanna learn how to play Chess at Vanier, I found out how. It’s called the Vanier Chess Initiative; oh man, Rick! It’s an instructional chess program being offered this semester that will help me develop a more nuanced approach to the game. Oh man, Rick! I’m thinkin’ about learning chess, and I’m starting to work up some anxiety about this whole thing! But I don’t need to worry, right? A new Hellboy Film in the works, but it’s not Hellboy 3

Before we dive into it all, I want to say that Guillermo Del Toro’s Hellboy would-be trilogy was one of the very first superhero films I saw. I was 10, and going to friend’s house to watch it in his basement without my parents knowing (as it was PG-13) was one of the most thrilling experiences in my life (as a 10 year old anyway)…   I absolutely loved the character and the whole aesthetic linked to the world of the B.P.R.D. and Hellboy. Both Del Toro and Perlman (who…

Clubs Day

As happens at the beginning of every semester, the VCSA organized a Clubs Day, bringing together representatives from most of the approved and existing student clubs. Tables were laid out around the far edges of the D-cafeteria, creating an inviting space for people to enter and scope out. During the blistering noon-hour UB of Sept 20th, there were people playing electric guitars, video games, serving complimentary food and drinks, and dancing. It was loud! It was hot! It was a good place to meet people. The first thing one would…

Did You See All of The Butterflies?

For the past few years, butterflies like the monarch have been sparse up north here in Canada due to their decline in population over the years. Although the butterflies look very similar to monarchs, they are not the same species. The butterflies you’ve been seeing all over the Montreal area lately are actually called painted ladies. Painted ladies are different from the monarchs in their appearance, with the monarch having orange under its wings, and the Painted ladies having a brown camouflage pattern to blend in with the ground. Also,…

30th Annual Blood Drive

During Universal Break on the 27th of September, Vanier marked a landmark anniversary of collaboration with Héma-Québec. Over the last 30 years, as part of its sole annual blood drive, members of the college community have made nearly 10,000 blood donations that have helped save lives throughout the province. A ceremony was held in Jake’s Mall to mark the occasion. H-Q presented the college with a certificate; speeches were made by VCSA President Whi and by directors of the two organizations. A festive cake was ceremoniously cut and served to…
