On February 28, Vanier hosted a winter carnival during the Universal Break. The carnival consisted of a traditional Québécois Folk dancing and music show in the student mall, where all students were welcome to join and learn how to folk dance. Catherine Fournier, the youngest person to currently sit as a Member of the National Assembly of Québec and the youngest female to ever be elected to the body, came to Vanier College on February 28 to give a lecture on youth engagement in politics. She was elected to the National Assembly in a by-election on December 5, 2016. She currently represents the south-shore electoral district of Marie-Victorin as a member of the Parti Québécois. A Big Day at MariHacks

Soon to be celebrating one year of existence, the Vanier Tech Club sent two teams to MariHacks on Sunday February 11th, held at Shopify’s downtown Montreal offices. This was the first ever hackathon open only to CEGEP and high school students in Quebec. 35 teams of programmers worked furiously for 12 consecutive hours trying to turn their ideas for websites and applications into reality. Purgatorio Gallery Exhibition

On February 14th, 2018, The Henry Lehmann Gallery in Vanier College unveiled its first exhibition of the semester. Communications students Matty Gavarrette, Adam Karagiannis, Gabriela Alvarado Lopez, Janier Lontoc, Valérie Nault, Joe Carlo Romero and Hannah Shammas collaborated to create this amazing exhibition. VCSA Student Involvement Scholarship Ceremony

On January 26, Zenith Ismaeel Neyaz, Benjamyn Upshaw-Ruffner, and Gerald Nino received the VCSA Student Involvement Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to full-time students at Vanier College who were involved in the VCSA community. They received a certificate and a $500 scholarship in a ceremony that was held in the VCSA office. Just dance. Gonna be ok. Do do da da. Just dance.    The MC got the event started with some inspiring words: “No excuses, no limits”. He says it motivated him, and I am paraphrasing, in his dark days. The rules were simple: voice your likes or dislikes on the dancer performing. All the dancers had unique dance styles. For example, the first dancer  had tricks up his sleeve, the second had robotic dance moves. The date was November 23rd, 2017. Inside Vanier’s Auditorium, seven hours past noon, a hush falls on the crowd as 13 students prepare to showcase their creativity.
