Take Me Out Arts

Take Me Out

We fell in love that semester

Two college kids who met on campus

Too busy with getting good grades

We didn’t have time for each other

She was from an upper-class family

Tried so hard to fill her daddy’s shoes

I can feel her desire of wanting to be free

I knew what I had to do

I went to her dorm that Sunday evening

Exhausted from all that studying

I tossed her books aside and took her for a drive

It was then she came alive

She said take me out

Somewhere past those city lights

Fire up those high beams

Don’t you dare slowing down

Driving across those county lines

Drive until the end of the night

Help me live my best dreams

Far away from that college town

So, boy, just take me out

She fell asleep in her seat

By dawn, we arrived at Myrtle Beach

When she got out of my truck

She started to cry at what she saw

We jumped into that blue water

Threw off our clothes in the sand

When we walked together and held hands

Not a single word about those midterms

After we made love all afternoon

I knew I made her dreams come true

That evening, she asked me for one more thing

I knew what she wanted me to do

She said take me out

Somewhere past those city lights

Fire up those high beams

Don’t you dare slow down

Driving across those county lines

Drive until the end of the night

Help me live my best dreams

Far away from that college town

So, boy, just take me out

She’s back in her world and I’m stuck in mine

When that Garth Brooks song plays every time

I can still see her in my mind

I hope she feels the same as well

I hope who she’s with will take her out

Somewhere past those city lights

Fire up those high beams

Don’t you dare slow down

Driving across those county lines

Drive until the end of the night

Help me live her best dreams

Far away from that college town

So, please, just take her out
