Soon to be celebrating one year of existence, the Vanier Tech Club sent two teams to MariHacks on Sunday February 11th, held at Shopify’s downtown Montreal offices. This was the first ever hackathon open only to CEGEP and high school students in Quebec. 35 teams of programmers worked furiously for 12 consecutive hours trying to turn their ideas for websites and applications into reality. Every new semester, there are always students who experience issues with course registration. This one was no different. There were students having problems with the online web app who lost their chosen courses due to sudden server crashes. The same students were then unable to reach helplines because they had to dial multiple times instead of being put on hold. This led them to have to pay late registration fees. On January 26, Zenith Ismaeel Neyaz, Benjamyn Upshaw-Ruffner, and Gerald Nino received the VCSA Student Involvement Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to full-time students at Vanier College who were involved in the VCSA community.
