St Patrick’s Day Parade happening in Montreal

St. Patrick’s Day parade returns to Montreal. The event will take place on March 20th at 9:30 am. The event organizers, the United Irish Societies of Montreal, have mentioned that this year’s parade will be smaller than previous parades. This parade will roughly have 500 participants compared to the previous years, with up to 3000 participants. For this parade, spectators can view bands and wave to members of the Irish Community from Lambert-Closse and along Ste. Catherine St., turning at Philip’s Square to St. Patrick’s Basilica. Despite the parade being…

Maya Angelou: a force to be reckoned with

“People will forget what you said, people will forget what you do, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou was born on April 4th, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri. She had a rough childhood as she lived in a segregated town where racism was omnipresent. Moreover, Angelou was the victim of sexual abuse, which led her to not speak for five years. Her childhood lacked the stability and safety that she desperately needed. However, this did not stop her from achieving great things in her…

The totally (un)historical origin of Valentine’s Day

Inspired by myths As I sat in my cell, I pondered, “How did it come down to this?” The answer, actually, was quite simple. It was all because of Claudius. But maybe it started when I was ordained as a Bishop. Or maybe my fate was sealed when the word began to spread? Ah, no – it started with that lovely faithful couple. Let me explain. When Emperor Claudius decreed last year (271 A.D.) that the soldiers in his army would no longer be allowed to marry, I could not…
