Dancing for the Kids
This year, February 2nd marks the 10th anniversary of the Just for Kids Foundation’s Dancing with the Stars fundraiser. This year’s goal is bigger than ever as they try to hit the $500,000 mark in order to purchase high priority medical equipment for the departments of Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Cranio-Facial Surgery and the NICU. Every year Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) gets bigger and better, always with the hope of giving as much money as possible to the Montreal Children’s hospital.
Inexperienced pillars of our community join forces with professional dancers to create a spectacular show for their audience as a way to say thank you for everything the Children’s hospital has done for them. Every dancer has their own story of how the hospital helped them, making them more motivated than any other fundraiser to give back.
This year’s theme, Memorable Moments, features choreography based on iconic movies that are guaranteed to wow everyone. These movies include: Step Up 2, Grease, Singing in the Rain, Take the Lead, the Mask, Dirty Dancing, James Bond, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Penguins of Madagascar, Annie, Hairspray, and Footloose.
Adults aren’t the only stars featured in this show. This is the second year to include kids-only groups. These children, from ages 8-17, all volunteer their time and put in their best effort to raise as much money for the hospital as they can, and some of them even manage to surpass the adults.
The amount of time and dedication put into this spectacular event, with the sole goal of making our Children’s hospital the best it can be and raising as much awareness as possible, shows how Montrealers can stand together and understand the true value of a place as special and life-changing as the Montreal Children’s hospital.
