TV Series Recommendations

During the Easter break, I got to watch some new TV series, which inspired me to write this article. I also included one of my all-time favorites. Hope this gives you some ideas on what to watch in the next few weeks!

Heartbreak High (2022)

Genre – Comedy/Drama

This Australian TV show is the reboot of Heartbreak High (1994-1999) with new characters and is set in the same Australian high school, Hartley High.

A map graffitied on the wall of the school about students’ sexual exploits is discovered and all of the students whose names were on it need to attend a new sexual education course. The map was created by the main character, Amerie, and her best friend, Harper. After Amerie takes the blame for the map, she becomes a social outcast, and Harper has stopped talking to her following an incident that happened a week prior.

This show was amazing and quickly became one of my favorites after watching it. There is a lot of diversity and it has queer, neurodivergent, and Indigenous representation! It discusses serious issues surrounding race, gender, and sexuality and I thought it was a good recommendation for this issue’s theme of healthy relations. If Netflix cancels this show, I’m actually suing.

Young Royals (2021)

Genre – Drama/Romance

This Swedish teen drama follows the fictional prince of Sweden, Wilhelm, who is forced to attend a prestigious boarding school. He meets a fellow male student, Simon, and befriends him. He soon discovers that what he is feeling for him is way more than friendship.

Young Royals is so cute and the main couple will make your heart melt.

Our Beloved Summer (2021)

Genre – Comedy/Romance

This Korean drama is a coming-of-age series revolving around Choi Ung and Kook Yeon-Soo, who are ex-lovers promised to never meet again. Ten years ago, they filmed a documentary together in high school that went viral. In the present, the director wants to make a sequel of the documentary with them.

This drama has the tropes of childhood friends to lovers, and second-chance romance. It is one of my favourite TV shows ever. Its genre is romantic comedy but it actually made me cry each episode…
