Lunar New Year at Vanier

Lunar New Year was held worldwide on the 16h of February 2018. More commonly known as Chinese New Year, this is the day most Asian countries celebrate the new year based on the lunar calendar. 2018 is the year of the dog. An event was organized at Vanier to celebrate.

During UB on the 14th of February, a kiosk decorated with different Chinese ornaments was set up at Jake’s Cafe. Students could learn about the specifics related to Lunar New Year and the Lunar calendar. They could also ask questions related to the celebrations in order to better understand this holiday celebrated by many Asian communities around the world. At the same time, an activity was set up at the kiosk in which students could recreate Chinese calligraphy using ink. In brief, the event allowed students to learn something new and expose themselves to a new cultural tradition.
